FAQs

What is mediation, and how does it work?

Mediation is a structured process where a neutral third party helps individuals resolve disputes outside of court. Instead of a judge making a decision, both parties work together to find a mutually acceptable solution. I facilitate the conversation, ensure a fair process, and help guide discussions toward an agreement.

Do I need a lawyer to participate in mediation?

No, mediation can be done with or without attorneys. Many individuals represent themselves (pro se), and I ensure the process remains balanced and fair. However, some people choose to consult an attorney for legal advice before, during, or after mediation.

What types of cases do you mediate?

I provide mediation for all probate and family law disputes, including but not limited to:

Probate

→ Guardianships and Conservatorships (protective proceedings)

→ Will contests

→ Estate administration disputes

→ Inheritance disputes

Family Law

→ Parenting time & Decision-making responsibility (Allocation of Parental Responsibilities)

→ Child support

→ Maintenance (spousal support/alimony)

→ Division of property

→ Attorney fees

→ Post-decree modifications

→ Common-law marriage

→ Parentage (paternity)

How long does mediation take?

Mediation sessions typically last 3 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. Some cases resolve in a single session, while others may require multiple meetings to reach an agreement.

Do you offer virtual mediation?

Yes, I offer virtual mediation services in Colorado. This allows parties to resolve disputes remotely, without needing to meet in person. Virtual sessions provide flexibility while maintaining the same structured approach as in-person mediation.

Do you offer in-person mediation?

In-person mediation is offered on a limited, as-needed basis. Please reach out directly if you feel you require an in-person session.

What happens if we don’t reach an agreement?

If mediation does not result in a full agreement, parties may:

→ Resolve some issues and take unresolved ones to court.

→ Continue mediation at a later date.

→ Pursue arbitration or litigation.

Mediation is non-binding, meaning no one is forced to accept an outcome they do not agree with.

What does a Guardian ad Litem do?

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a court-appointed advocate who represents the best interests of a child or incapacitated adult in legal proceedings. I investigate all aspects of the case, interview involved parties, and provide the court with fact-based recommendations to help ensure a fair outcome.

What is the role of a Special Master?

A Special Master is a neutral third party appointed by a court to resolve specific disputes in complex cases. This can include:

→ Reviewing discovery disputes

→ Implementing court orders

→ Assisting in high-conflict family law cases

I help streamline legal processes, ensuring compliance and reducing delays in litigation.

How much does mediation cost?

Fees for mediation are clearly listed on my Fee Schedule. The cost depends on the length of the session and number of parites involved. Mediation is often far less expensive than litigation.

How do I schedule a mediation session?

You can schedule a mediation online through my Calendar or use the form on my Contact Page for special scheduling requests.
